This Friday brings the return of the ever-popular Friday Cheers at Brown’s Island! This summer concert series on the James River is in its 34th season and brings in both regional and nationally known bands and artists through the months of May and June. Crowds anywhere from 3,000-6,000 come out every Friday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 to enjoy the live music, food trucks and drinks. Season passes are $55, individual events range in price from $5-$10, and kids under 12 are free! Here is this year’s lineup:

  • May 4: Valerie June with Devon Gilfillian
  • May 11: Tank and the Bangas with Sweet Crude
  • May 25: RVA Music Night featuring Richmond bands: Butcher Brown, Dharma Bombs and Piranha Rama
  • June 1: Tyler Childers with Saw Black
  • June 8: Rhiannon Giddens with No BS! Brass Band
  • June 15: Parquet Courts with Gauche
  • June 22: Knower with Kenneka Cook
  • June 29: Turnpike Troubadours with Charley Crockett

Have you been to River City Roll, Richmond’s first boutique bowling alley, yet? Located at 939 Myers St, right behind En Su Boca, it features 20 lanes, a menu of elevated American classics, a killer cocktail list, huge bar, and a space for live music. This is NOT your average bowling alley! Saturday, starting at 11:00 AM, they’ll be hosting a Cinco de Derby Party, in honor of the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo! Break out your sombreros and seersucker for a day of tequila mint juleps, costume contests (for humans and pups!), music and more!

This Sunday, Hollywood Cemetery is hosting their 7th Annual Picnic! I know, it sounds a little morbid, but this tradition dates back to the 1800’s! Pack all your picnic essentials and come out to relax, enjoy live music, and take in one of the best views of the James River and Downtown Richmond the city has to offer! Hollywood staff will be offering guided trolley tours through the grounds, and they’ll also have an ice cream truck and hot dogs on site! The picnic is free to attend. Please RSVP Nancy Shepherd at (804) 648-8501 or email her at nshepherd@hollywoodcemetery.org for a reservation.
